Athlone Town Council

Athlone Town Council provides an extensive range of infrastructural services, and plays an active role in the physical planning and development of the town's industry, business, social, arts, heritage and cultural affairs. It also functions as the regulatory body for certain matters at local level. Local authorities perform both a representational and an operational role because the Irish system of Local Government encompasses both democratic representation and public administration. The representational role is performed directly by the elected members of the Council. Athlone Town Council has 9 elected members. Members of the Council are elected according to the system of proportional representation for a period of five years. The Mayor is elected from the membership of the Council at the statutory annual meeting of the Council.

Irish Defence Forces

Sport, in its many forms, plays an important part in overall Military life. It contributes to fitness, teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, determination, courage, competitive spirit and military ethos. Sport also provides an outlet for military personnel away from the stresses of military life as this life places unique physical and psychological demands on individuals and therefore sport very much contributes to their physical and mental well-being as. triAthlone has become the major event in Athlone's sporting calender and the Defence Forces, as an integral part of the town's life and always promoting a fit and healthy lifestyle, are proud to be part of the organisation of the event and are proud that the event is putting Athlone, and Ireland, on the international triathlon map. Good luck to all competitors from the Defence Forces!
