About the Children’s Medical & Research Foundation

‘Healthier Children - Happier Lives’ - Providing support to sick children since 1965

The Children’s Medical & Research Foundation (www.cmrf.org) has been at the heart of Irish paediatric care, dedicated to the improvement of children’s health since 1965.

Our CMRF team work hard to support the efforts and mission of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin (www.olchc.ie ) and the Children’s Research Centre (lwww.childrensresearchcentre.org ) by raising funds for capital projects, state of the art medical equipment, research programmes and further education.

Our role is to inspire generous spirit in individuals and organisations and support them in whatever way we can to give to the hospital. We invest the contributions which we receive in outstanding paediatric care and research to help children at Our Lady's, and throughout Ireland.

Over the years, the Foundation has continued to grow and evolve, largely through the support of its generous communities and individuals. We hope you will continue to support us in our efforts.

When you give to the Children's Medical & Research Foundation, we will guarantee you the highest standards of accountability and program effectiveness. If you require any further information, please contact us on 1890 507 508 and speak to one of our team.

ihf

The Irish Heart Foundation is Ireland’s national charity fighting stroke and heart disease, the combined biggest killer in this country.  Our vision is that every person living in Ireland will live a long, active and healthy life free from heart, stroke and blood vessel disease.  Our mission is to lead in improving the cardiovascular health of people living in Ireland so they do not experience disability or die from preventable heart, stroke and other blood vessel diseases. The Irish Heart Foundation is funded up to 90 per cent by public and corporate donations.

See www.irishheart.ie for further information on our work.

Money raised from the Waterways Ireland triAthlone will go directly to support our Stroke Campaign.  Until recently, many believed stroke was a disease for which little or nothing could be done but we now know that strokes are among the most preventable and treatable of all diseases.  Hundreds of people are dying each year when their lives could be saved and hundreds more are being needlessly condemned to permanent disability because they don’t have access to vital services.    See www.stroke.ie for more details on our fight to improve stroke services and survival.

bci

We, at Breast Cancer Ireland, are delighted to have the opportunity to profile our cause to Triathletes nationwide.

Breast Cancer Ireland (BCI) is a charity set up to raise money for breast cancer research. It is administered through the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland under the direction of Professor Arnold Hill.

BCI’s ambition is to seek integration and collaboration amongst breast cancer researchers nationally through a newly established National Breast Cancer Consortium, whose goal is to build the countries first National Breast Cancer Tissue Bio Bank of samples which will accelerate discovery rates and ultimately improve patient outcomes. Current participants in this consortium include Galway, Cork, Limerick and Dublin cancer centres.

We are constantly looking for new and improved ways of treating patients with breast cancer. We conduct relevant biological research into breast cancer, its causes and potential trigger mechanisms and translate our discoveries into more effective and efficient treatments for all patients diagnosed..

cry

Cardiac Risk in the Young in Ireland was founded in March 2002 by parents who had experienced the effects of sudden and unexplained death within their families.   CRY is a self supporting registered charity.
Over 5,000 people suffer sudden cardiac death in Ireland each year, of which 60 to 80 are under the age of 35 years. In direct response to this a dedicated new treatment centre, The Centre for Cardiovascular Risk in Younger Persons at Tallaght Hospital was opened in November 2008.  Fundraising is crucial on an ongoing basis to cover the costs of the Centre as they receive no funding from the Government.  There is no charge for the service made to the patient regardless of their financial or insurance status.

CRY continues to raise awareness of cardiac risk in the young, provides counselling and support to families affected and supports the National Screening Centre where families and individuals at risk are evaluated.  The Centre opened in November 2008 and aims to screen 1,600 young people per year.
Monies raised at the Triathlone 2010 will help CRY to continue to support the Screening Centre in Tallaght.
For further information please visit our website at www.cry.ie or email info@cry.ie.
